Where is the Kids Castle?

The Kids Castle is located in the heart of Bucks County in Doylestown’s Central Park at 425 Wells Road.

The main road through the park is one-way. You’ll enter at the park’s southeast corner and then drive about .2 miles to the closest parking lot to the castle.

What to Know Before You Go

Parking

As mentioned above, the closest parking lot to the Kids Castle is about .2 miles from the entrance, next to the amphitheater. This lot holds over 100 cars, so grabbing a spot on regular days shouldn’t be difficult.

There are also a few spots along the road in front of the bathrooms and picnic pavilion just before the large parking lot.

If all of those spots are taken, you can also park at the lot towards the exit, next to the soccer fields.

Good to Know: There are many activities that occur at Central Park, including sports and concerts. Because of this, parking can be limited on weekends, epseically during the spring and fall.

Bathrooms

The closest bathrooms to the Kids Castle are at the picnic pavilion along the main road. It’s a bit of a walk from the bathrooms to the playground, so it’s a good idea to use them first before heading down (at least, that’s what we do!).

Good to Know: I’ve seen port-a-johns on recent visits closer to the castle, but they might not always be available.

Picnic Tables and Pavilions

There are a few picnic tables and pavilions right next to the Kids Castle playground. Many people rent the pavilions for birthday parties, but the picnic tables are first-come, first-served.

Seating

You’ll find benches around the perimeter of the Kids Castle play area. These are uncovered but might be shaded by the castle itself, depending on the time of day.

There is also a seating area at the entrance of the play area with bench seating. This area is covered by a pergola, offering some, but not complete, shade.

Safety

The Kids Castle play area is large, so keeping track of your child can feel overwhelming.

However, the entire play area is fenced in, with only one entrance/exit. This gives parents some peace of mind that their child will be mostly contained inside the space.

The Tot Lot is also fenced in inside the play area.

Good to Know: It’s difficult to keep track of your child when they are inside the castle. Parents can go inside, but if you’re taller than 5 feet, you’ll have to crouch down in several spots.

The Castle

As the playground’s centerpiece, the castle is where kids tend to spend the most time. There are places to climb, slide, and explore inside the castle and several lookouts for kids to yell down to their grownups.

Inside feels like a maze, with multiple levels inside the 35-foot-tall castle. Kids can exit the castle in several ways, including a large twisty slide and an “elevator.”

The ground level of the castle is covered in wood mulch. However, the upper levels are made up of plastic wood-style decking.

Around the Castle

In addition to the castle, there are several other play structures around the castle. You’ll find swings, several climbing structures (one looks like a pirate ship!), spinners, and even a Simon-style game.

During renovations in 2021 and 2022, the mulch surrounding the castle was replaced with poured-in-place rubber “flooring,” making this area cleaner and easier for everyone to enjoy.

Tot Lot

Although the Kids Castle playground is built for kids ages 5-12, the Tot Lot section is for the little ones! The fenced-in area is just for kids aged 2-5, and features play pieces built especially for them.

Accessibility

During the renovations in 2021 and 2022, areas of the Kids Castle playground were made accessible to children of all abilities.

Two new inclusive play areas were created to meet the needs of children with various abilities. These areas have a pour-in-place rubber “floor” that makes it easy for wheelchairs and other mobility devices to move around.

Other Things to Do Nearby

If you’re making the drive to Kids Castle, you might also want to explore some of the other fun things to do in Doylestown.

We love the Mercer Museum (and the Michener Art Museum across the street). You can also stroll through Doylestown and grab some pizza at Jule’s Thin Crust or a sweet treat at Nina’s Waffles.

Those interested in the paranormal might want to stop by Vampa, a museum dedicated to the lore of vampires and the supernatural.
